Murat Sönmez is an innovative, inspirational and purpose driven global business leader with deep technology experience in Silicon Valley complemented with more than six years as a member of the Managing Board of the World Economic Forum (WEF).
In February 2017, he established and led WEF’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) headquartered in San Francisco, California. C4IR is a pioneering global public private partnership platform to co-design and pilot forward-looking governance protocols of the fourth industrial revolution technologies.
Murat has also pioneered the concept of the data economy; a concept being piloted in multiple jurisdictions around the world.
Prior to joining the WEF, Murat was a co-founder of TIBCO Software, a real-time data distribution and predictive analytics company headquartered in Palo Alto, California. TIBCO’s innovative products were adopted by internet pioneers (Amazon, eBay, Yahoo!) and global businesses in various sectors.
Murat has a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Bosphorus University, Istanbul, Turkey, and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Virginia Tech.
